Dr. habil. Andreas Broeckmann ist Kunstwissenschaftler und Kurator und lebt in Berlin. Er arbeitet an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg im Forschungs- und Dokumentationsprojekt Les Immateriaux Research (DFG-Förderung 2021–2024). Broeckmann unterrichtet an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, wo er eine Honorarprofessur für Kunst- und Medienwissenschaft inne hat und 2017-2020 die Professur für Kunstgeschichte und Medientheorie vertrat. Er leitete von 2011-2016 das Leuphana Arts Program in Lüneburg und war Gründungsdirektor des Dortmunder U – Zentrum für Kunst und Kreativität (2009-2011) sowie Künstlerischer Leiter der ISEA2010 RUHR, dem 16th International Symposium on Electronic Art im Rahmen der europäischen Kulturhauptstadt Ruhr.2010. Von 2000-2007 war er Künstlerischer Leiter der ‚transmediale – Festival für Kunst und digitale Kultur‘ in Berlin, und 2005-2007 Künstlerischer Ko-Leiter des Berliner Medienkunstlabors TESLA. 1995-2000 arbeitete er für das Rotterdamer Institut für instabile Medien, V2_Organisatie. Ausstellungsprojekte als freier Kurator u.a. am Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven (‚Dick Verdult – And on Sundays we celebrate Friday‘), FACT Liverpool (‚MyWar – Participation in an Age of Conflict‘, 2010), Hartware Dortmund (‚TRUST‘, 2010), am Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (‚Deep Screen – Art in Digital Culture‘, 2008), Medienkunstbiennale Seoul (‚media_city_seoul‘, 2008), bei Skuc in Ljubljana (‚KRcF – Room for Manoeuvre‘, 2006), bei TENT/Witte de With in Rotterdam (‚Tracer / Neuralgic‘, 2004), und bei Kontejner / MaMa in Zagreb (‚Runtime Art‘, 2004). Er ist Mitbegründer von Les Jardins des Pilotes und war Mitglied des mikro e.V. für die Pflege von Medienkulturen in Berlin. Er ko-moderiert die internationale ‚Spectre‘-Mailingliste und war Initiator der Syndicate-Mailingliste. Broeckmann studierte Kunstgeschichte, Soziologie und Medienwissenschaft in Bochum, Berlin und Norwich/UK und promovierte 1995 in Kunstgeschichte mit einer Arbeit über Photographie im 19. Jahrhundert. Er ist Mitherausgeber von „Place Studies in Art, Media, Science and Technology. Historical Investigations on the Sites and the Migration of Knowledge“ (mit Gunalan Nadarajan, Weimar 2009), und von „30 Years after Les Immatériaux“ (mit Yuk Hui, Lüneburg 2015). Seine Monografie „Machine Art in the Twentieth Century“ wurde 2016 von der Leuphana Universität als Habilitationsschrift angenommen und ist bei MIT-Press erschienen. In seinen Seminaren, Vorträgen und Texten beschäftigt Broeckmann sich mit moderner und zeitgenössischer Kunst, Medientheorie und digitaler Kultur.

Dr. habil. Andreas Broeckmann is an art historian and curator who lives in Berlin. He is engaged in the DFG-funded research and documentation project Les Immateriaux Research at Leuphana University Lüneburg (2021-2024). He teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts, Leipzig (HGB – Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst) where he holds an Honorary Professorship, and was Visiting Professor for Art History and Media Theory (2017-2020). Visiting Professor for Art and Media Theory at Oldenburg University (2016-2017). He was the Artistic Director of the Leuphana Arts Program (2011-2016), of Dortmunder U – Centre for Art and Creativity (2009-2011), of ISEA2010 RUHR, the 16th International Symposium on Electronic Art in the context of the European Cultural Capital, Ruhr.2010. From 2000 to 2007 he was the Artistic Director of transmediale – festival for art and digital culture berlin, and from 2005 to 2007, one of three artistic directors of TESLA – Laboratory for Arts and Media in Berlin. From 1995 to 2000, he worked as a project manager at V2_Organisation Rotterdam, Institute for the Unstable Media. Indepently curated exhibitions include projects at Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven (‚Dick Verdult – and on Sundays we celebrate Friday‘), FACT Liverpool (‚MyWar – Participation in an Age of Conflict‘, 2010), Hartware Dortmund (‚TRUST‘, 2010), Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (‚Deep Screen – Art in Digital Culture‘, 2008), Media Art Biennal Seoul (‚media_city_seoul‘, 2008), Skuc Gallery in Ljubljana (‚KRcF – Room for Manoeuvre‘, 2006), at TENT/Witte de With in Rotterdam (‚Tracer / Neuralgic‘, 2004), and with Kontejner / MaMa in Zagreb (‚Runtime Art‘, 2004). Broeckmann studied art history, sociology, and media studies in Germany and Britain. He holds a PhD in Art History from the University of East Anglia, Norwich/UK. He is the editor of „Place Studies in Art, Media, Science and Technology. Historical Investigations on the Sites and the Migration of Knowledge“ (with Gunalan Nadarajan, Weimar 2009), and of „30 Years After Les Immatériaux“ (with Yuk Hui, Lüneburg 2015). His monograph „Machine Art in the Twentieth Century“ was published by MIT-Press (2016). In university courses, curatorial projects, and lectures he deals with modern and contemporary art, technology, and digital culture.
